The city of Butler is purchasing a vehicle from another local municipality to replace an older canine vehicle.
During a Butler City Council meeting last week, council members approved the purchase of a 2022 Ford Interceptor from Lancaster Township for a cost of $20,000.
Half the cost will be paid by the Butler County District Attorney from money that has been seized while the remainder will come out of the Police K9 Fund. This will replace the 2013 canine vehicle currently in use.
The new vehicle is already fully outfitted for patrol. It will be painted and labeled as a Butler City Police vehicle by West Penn Vehicle Specialist at a cost of just over $4,000 before it is put into use.
