A massive swarm of cicadas are expected in the area in just weeks.
Experts say the large brood will emerge from the ground in early-to-mid May after 17 years. The insects will wait until the temperature of the soil is roughly 64 degrees and then they’ll come out and remain out all through June.
Some areas- especially in southwestern Pennsylvania- can expect as many as a million and a half cicadas per acre.
Experts say people might not love the noise, but they are harmless and actually good for the environment.
