High School Sports Scores from Tuesday:
Boys Basketball:
–Central Catholic defeated Butler 61-54 to win the Class 6A Section-1 title. Ethan Morton scored 23 for the Golden Tornado. The win capped a remarkable season turnaround for Central, who failed to make the playoffs last season. Butler will finish their regular section season Friday against Seneca Valley.
–Pine-Richland keeps pace with Butler for second place in the section with a 75-54 win over North Hills.
–Seneca Valley defeated North Allegheny 39-32. The Raiders clinched a playoff spot and snapped a 20-game losing streak to the Tigers. North Allegheny misses the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.
–Hampton defeated Knoch 61-56. Julian Sanks netted 25 for the Knights.
–Mars defeated Chartiers Valley 69-53. Robby Carmody had a game-high 33 points. With Char Valley’s loss and Hampton’s win over Knoch, the Colts’ 24-year post-seasons streak has come to an end.
–Freeport-74 Derry-59. Isiah Bauman scored 23 to lead the Yellow Jackets. Ben Beale added 16.
–Karns City topped Moniteau 56-46. The win keeps the Gremlins tied for first place with Keystone in the KSAC-South with two regular season games remaining.
–AC Valley defeated Union 50-49.
–Armstrong defeated Kiski Area 52-47.
–Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic over Avonworth 51-34.
Girls Basketball:
–Knoch-50 Apollo-Ridge-45. Casey Kretzer had 17 to lead the Knights.
–Armstrong-42 Plum-27.
–Deer Lakes over Valley 55-17.
Rifle:
–The Butler Rifle team finished third in the WPIAL championships Tuesday. Hempfield took first with an 800 and 54x. Woodland Hills was second at 799 and 68x. Butler finished at 799 and 60x.
