The Pittsburgh Penguins return to play after a day off Thursday when they host the Detroit Red Wings. Last night, the Washington Capitals defeated Detroit 2-1 and have jumped over the Penguins and Red Wings by one point into a playoff spot. Alex Ovechkin had one of the Washington goals and became the first NHL player ever to have at least 18 seasons of 30 goals or more.
Montreal defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 9-3 as the Canadiens handed the Flyers their eighth consecutive loss. Philadelphia remains one point behind the Penguins and Red Wings.
