Butler Area School District administrators will continue with the process of compiling a school calendar for next year after having received input from community members.
Results from a recent online survey were made public and showed respondents fairly evenly split between a calendar that starts after Labor Day weekend and includes a shorter winter break, and one that begins before Labor Day weekend with a longer winter break.
A similar survey of teachers showed that over half are in favor of a schedule that begins four days before Labor Day and includes a two-week winter break. The majority of community members and teachers favor ending school on the first Friday in June.
School faculty and administrators will now form a small group in order to use the information gathered to come up with a recommended calendar. The group is expected to present the calendar to the school board in November. The board will then have to formally adopt it, which could happen in December or January.
