Butler wrestler Santino Sloboda finished runner-up in the 107-pound weight class at the WPIAL championships Saturday. He qualified for the state championships. Heavyweight Ethan Babay missed the state tournament by one place and took fifth in his first year as a starter on the team.
Also in wrestling, on Sunday, Butler’s Ana Malovich won the first ever Girls Western State Regional Qualifier at Kiski High School. Ana scored a pin in the finals to secure her title. She will compete in the state girls tournament this Sunday at Central Dauphin High School.
Congratulations to Butler head coach Scott Stoner and assistant coach Fred Powell for both winning Section “Coach of the Year” honors, with Powell also receiving a vote for the WPIAL “Assistant Coach of the Year” from the coaches association.
