The Butler Area School District will welcome students back to class today- a few days later than originally planned.
The district was supposed to start a new year last Thursday, but was forced to delay due to a massive transportation software issue.
“This year’s bus routes are going to be far less than ideal,” Butler Superintendent Dr. Brian White said. “We are literally manually scheduling the kids and routes at this point. There’s no automation function that we’re having any success with.”
White said no decision has been made in regards to make up days.
“I actually work very closely with a committee of teachers with the Butler Educators Association to help make recommendations to the calendar,” White said. “So I’ve asked them to contemplate it as well, and together we’ll make a recommendation to the board.”
White did take responsibility for the issues- and apologized saying that he appreciated the community support and understanding.
“I really apologize that this happened,” White said. “It’s a disappointment to all of us that we’re in the situation we are. But I also want to thank everyone for their encouragement. The community support here has been unbelievable.”
He promised to review operations and make changes for the future.
