Police have confirmed that a Butler resident died in a fatal crash involving a tractor trailer last week on I-79 in Allegheny County.
The accident happened last Thursday morning on I-79 just after midnight near mile marker 67, which is in Ohio Township.
Police say a tractor trailer was driving south on I-79, when it went through the center median and was going the wrong way in the northbound lane.
That’s when a vehicle driven by 54-year-old Frank Tupper of Butler collided with the truck head-on.
Both vehicles then became engulfed in flames.
Tupper and the driver of the tractor trailer were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident shut down I-79 for hours during the morning commute Thursday.
