An ongoing police investigation has resulted in charges against a local man for unlawful contact with a minor.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the State Police Computer Crime Unit, 42-year-old Anthony Smith of Butler is accused of felony photographing, videotaping, depicting on computer or filming sexual acts.
Between the middle of July and the end of October, Smith allegedly had been chatting online with a 14-year-old girl in El Paso, Texas. Using information provided by the girl’s parents and with their permission, officers used the girl’s Pinterest account to have incriminating chats with Smith.
When taken into custody Friday morning, Smith allegedly admitted to having an online sexual relationship with a girl he knew was 14 years old that included the transmission of sexually explicit images and videos. Smith was arraigned and committed to the Butler County Jail while this investigation continues.
