The Butler boys bowling team were semifinalists at the Pennsylvania Western Regional team championships Saturday. The finish qualified them for the Pennsylvania State championships in Erie later this month. Six teams from Western Pennsylvania will be joined by six qualifiers from Eastern Pa.
Butler bowlers Alex Ekas and Luke Keene qualified for the State Singles championships as well. They were among 12 qualifiers from Western Pennsylvania to reach the state tournament individually. Alex qualified fifth overall, then fell in the opening round of the championship step-ladder by one pin. Luke won his opening match, then fell in the quarterfinals to eventual overall champion Cade Schimmer of Plum.
