The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-1 at Wrigley Field Monday afternoon to win the National League Central Division. The two teams needed a 163rd game to determine the division champion. Milwaukee now has home field advantage throughout the National League playoffs.
The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Colorado Rockies to win the N.L. West. It is the sixth consecutive year the Dodgers have won the division.
The Rockies will travel to Wrigley Field today for the National League Wild Card game. First pitch is 8:09pm with coverage on ESPN. The winner goes to Milwaukee Thursday.
The American League Wild Card will be played tomorrow with the New York Yankees hosting the Oakland Athletics at 8:08pm. That game will be televised on TBS. The winner goes to Boston Friday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have fired hitting coach Jeff Branson and assistant hitting coach Jeff Livesey. The Bucs finished 10th in the National League in runs scored and ninth in on-base percentage. The Pirates 157 home runs were only better than two other N.L. teams. The team did finish with the least amount of strikeouts in the league.
