No one was hurt but a building was completely destroyed as a result of a fire at an industrial plant in northern Butler County.
Firefighters were alerted at 7 a.m. Friday for a fire inside Rosini Carbons on Branchton Road in Boyers. But, Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Joe Fitzgerald believes the fire actually started burning last night.
“It started burning approximately 8 p.m. Thursday, according to video,” Fitzgerald said in an interview with Butler Radio on Friday. “When the employees came into work about 6:45 a.m. Friday, they saw the fire and called 911. The fire alarm was inactive.”
Fitzgerald says Rosini Carbons is a big industrial plant, and this fire was contained to one steel building.
“The whole building is destroyed. Everything in it is destroyed. The fire melted the desk…it melted the high beams in the building. That’s how hot it got,” he said.
No one was injured. Fitzgerald says it’s he hasn’t heard of a dollar amount on how much damage was done, but said there was a lot of expensive equipment inside the building.
Firefighters from five departments were called in to help, including from Marion Township, Slippery Rock, Harrisville, West Sunbury, Pine Engine Company (Mercer County) and EMTs with Slippery Rock ambulance service.
“We needed the man-power,” Fitzgerald said.
It’s unclear who the parent company of Rosini Carbons is. A person who answered the phone at Shamokin Carbons in Coal Township, PA said the company had ‘no comment’ when asked if they were associated with Rosini Carbons. According to the company’s website, the president of Shamokin Carbons is Don Rosini.
“I have no clue who is in charge of this plant. It was just recently sold,” Fitzgerald said.
The fire was put out by 7:30 a.m. Friday.
