The Atlanta Braves completed a three-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 2-1 victory last night at PNC Park. Trevor Williams allowed just one run on two hits over six innings in his start. Kyle Crick took the loss, when he allowed the winning run in the eighth inning. Crick failed to record an out in his appearance. The Pirates managed just three hits in the game. Gregory Polanco missed a game-tying home run in the ninth inning by inches. The hit resulted in a double, but the Bucs left him stranded to end the game.
The Pirates are off today then begin a nine-game road trip in Milwaukee Friday night. They have fallen to 63-65 overall, and are 10-1/2 behind the first-place Cubs. The Bucs are 7-1/2 back in the Wild Card standings. St. Louis and Milwaukee have taken over the two Wild Card spots in the National League.
Chris Archer will make his scheduled start Sunday after leaving Monday’s game with discomfort in his left leg.
The Pirates 2019 schedule has been released. They will begin next season in Cincinnati March 28th. The Pirates home opener will be April 1st against St. Louis. They are scheduled to play interleague games against the American League West next season. Oakland, Texas and Seattle will come to Pittsburgh.
The Altoona Curve defeated Harrisburg 3-2 last night for their fourth consecutive win. The victory guarantees the Curve their fourth consecutive winning season. Tonight is Pro Wrestling Night at the ballpark in Altoona, with a special appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Diamond Dallas Page.
Curve third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes has not appeared in a game this week after injuring his left shoulder. Hayes tripped out of the batter’s box Sunday.
