State health officials are reminding school districts of no-cost testing that’s available.
Acting Secretary of Health Alison Beam says there are nearly 400 districts enrolled in the testing program. She says testing is a major tool in fighting COVID-19.
“The Department of Health is encouraging all schools to take advantage of this resource, because early detection of COVID-19 can help keep kids in school,” Beam said.
Beam also weighed in on why some districts may not be taking advantage of the option.
“Any reluctance on part of the schools may be because we need to continue educating them on the availability of it, and of course we’ve tried ad nauseum to make sure schools are aware of it,” Beam said.
“So speaking to school leadership about it, making sure folks are aware of it, and aware of the breadth of testing supplies and staff that are available for participating schools is going to continue to be our responsibility to educate and allow schools to get interested in it.”
It’s unclear if any local districts utilize the testing option.
