Butler County Community College is being evacuated and is closing for the rest of the day.
Details are few right now, but sources say all students, staff and employees were told to evacuate campus immediately around 9:30 a.m.
According to an email, the decision was made as a precaution after “information received by BC3 officials.”
A email, meanwhile, was sent out by Butler Superintendent Dr. Brian White saying that he was made aware of a “general threat to schools” that was posted online. White says that the post did not mention the Butler Area School District by name, but that it appears it was posted by someone in the area.
White adds that the district will still proceed with their normal schedule today, and that he has asked “school police and local law enforcement to be vigilant and increase their patrols in and around schools.”
This is a breaking story and we’ll provide more information as soon as we get it.
