The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided a series sweep by the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 5-2 victory last night at PNC Park. Pirates starting pitcher Bryse Wilson tossed five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven. The Pirate bullpen allowed all five Arizona runs in the next three innings after Wilson left the game. Gregory Polanco led the Pirates with two hits.
The Pirates open a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:40pm.
Wilson returned from the Injured List with arm fatigue to make the start last night. To make room for Wilson on the active roster, the Pirates placed JT Brubaker on the 10-day I.L. with a thumb contusion that he suffered while batting in Tuesday’s win.
