April is National Donate Life Month, and the Independence Health System is encouraging everyone to become an organ donor.
According to IHS, there are more than 6,000 people in Pennsylvania waiting for an organ transplant.
A unit-specific flag-raising will take place Tuesday at the Butler Memorial Hospital ICU. Just one donor can save the lives of up to eight individuals in need as while tissue donors can improve the lives of more than 75 people. There are no restrictions on being a donor due to age, race, or medical history.
People can sign up to become an organ donor through the website of the Center for Organ Recovery and Education.
