A unique annual summer camp for young survivors is planned to begin this weekend in southern Butler County.
The West Penn Hospital Burn Center is hosting their 33rd annual summer camp for kids with burn injuries on Saturday through Wednesday, June 5 at Camp Kon-O-Kwee in Zelienople.
The theme of this year’s camp is ‘Under the Sea’ and the Pittsburgh Scuba Center will give scuba lessons. Nearly 30 kids from Western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia will share about their journey to recovery as they also visit Kennywood Park and Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium.
The camp is free of charge to kids ages 8 to 16 who have been treated at Allegheny Health Network’s West Penn Burn Center thanks to the fundraising of firefighters and other organizations.
