The Pittsburgh Pirates winning streak ended Wednesday with a 4-0 loss to the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland All-Star starting pitcher Trevor Bauer held the Bucs to two hits over seven innings, while striking out 10. Pirates starter Jameson Taillon allowed two runs on seven hits over his seven inning outing, and took the loss. The Bucs managed just three hits total in the game, while striking out 13 times.
Outfielder Corey Dickerson sat out the game after straining a hamstring the night before. The Pirates recalled utility player Adam Frazier from Indianapolis and returned pitcher Casey Sadler.
The Pirates completed a 5-1 road trip, and have returned home to host the New York Mets tonight. First pitch is 7:05pm. Nick Kingham will start for the Bucs. Hear the game on WISR 680am beginning at 6:40pm.
The Pirates lost ground to the first-place Chicago Cubs in the National League Central Division after the Cubs defeated Arizona Wednesday. The Pirates are now seven back. They are 3-1/2 games back in the chase for the final Wild Card spot.
Catcher Francisco Cervelli has resumed baseball activities. He was placed on the seven-day disabled list because of re-occurring concussion issues July 14th.
Albert Pujols of the Los Angeles Angels hit his 631st career home run last night to pass Ken Griffey, Jr. for sixth on the all-time home run list. It was Pujols 17th home run of the season. He is now 29 home runs away from Hall of Famer Willie Mays.
The Butler BlueSox defeated Lafayette 5-3 last night on Butler Radio Network Night. The Sox scored twice in the seventh inning for the win. They host the Aviators again tonight at 7:05pm, then will host Kokomo Friday and Saturday.
The Altoona Curve completed their suspended game with Akron Wednesday with a 10-2 final, before losing the regularly-scheduled game 5-1 to close out their series with the first-place RubberDucks. The Curve are six games behind Akron in the Eastern League Western Division. They will host Binghampton tonight in Altoona.
