The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cleveland Indians 9-4 last night for their 11th victory in a row. Starling Marte extended his hitting streak to 17 games. Marte drove in three runs and hit his 16th home run of the year. Gregory Polanco hit his 18th home run. Josh Bell added his sixth home run of the season.
Pirates starting pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings to earn his fourth win.
The Pirates have now matched the a streak from 1996. The Bucs have also moved to within six games of first-place Chicago, and are three behind in the chase for a final National League Wild Card.
The two teams meet again today in Cleveland. First pitch is 1:10pm. WISR will join the game following “It’s Your Turn”. Jameson Taillon will start for the Bucs. (7-7, 3.80 ERA). Trevor Bauer will start for the Indians. (8-6, 2.44 ERA).
The Pirates have scored 53 runs over their 11-game streak, which is the team’s best scoring streak since 1975.
Corey Dickerson, who had two hits while scoring twice and driving in two runs, left the game with mild discomfort in his hamstring. Dickerson is batting .318 this season, which is tied for third-best in the National League.
