Nascar is in New Hampshire Sunday for the 20th Cup Series race of the season. Denny Hamlin held off Kyle Larson in last year’s race. Hear the race beginning at 1pm on WBUT 1050am and at wbut.com.
Denny Hamlin picked up the first win of the 2017 season for Joe Gibbs Racing and the
thirtieth of his Cup Series career. He crashed in practice on Friday before qualifying, thus grabbing the victory in a back-up car. Hamlin outran a fast-closing Kyle Larson in the final laps. After securing the pole position, Larson had to start the race in the back of the field after failing post-qualifying inspection. His runner-up finish was the seventh time the Chip Ganassi Racing driver had placed second to that point of the season. Rounding out the top five were Martin Truex Junior, Matt Kenseth and Kevin Harvick … The traction compound P-J-1 that was applied to the surface had created exciting side-by-side racing in the X-finity Series race on Saturday but seemed to be less of a factor for the Cup Series drivers on Sunday, especially in the last stage of the race … There were seven cautions for thirty-four laps … Eleven lead changes were shared by six drivers: Hamlin, Kenseth, Truex, Larson, Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Junior.
