Jimmy Gillam of Altoona won the West Penn Open Wednesday on the fifth playoff hole at Oakmont. Gillam strugged to a +5-over 40 on the front nine during the final round, but rallied to force the playoff with amateur Connor Schmidt. Both ended regulation play at +4 over. Brett Young of Nemacolin and amateur Nathan Smith finished +6 over.
The 147th British Open is underway in Scotland. Jordan Spieth is defending champion.
