The Slippery Rock University athletic communication office was recognized with 19 national and regional awards for publications, design and writing over the course of the 2017-18 academic year, leading all Division II programs for the third consecutive year.
The list of honors for the office puts a cap on a successful year for the athletic communication staff that started with Slippery Rock landing on ESPN’s SportsCenter nine different weeks during the fall and ended with director of athletic communication Jon Holtz being named president of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association in June.
Slippery Rock University baseball head coach Jeff Messer has announced the addition of 12 student-athletes that will join the program for the 2019 season.
The Rock’s 2018-19 recruiting class consists of 10 freshmen and two transfers. As is typically the case for SRU, the class is heavy with local talent. In all, 10 of the 12 soon-to-be Rock baseball players have roots in Pennsylvania, and three have roots in Butler County: Anthony Cinicola and DJ Alway were teammates at Seneca Valley, and Ricky Mineo is a graduate of nearby Slippery Rock high school. The 12 new additions will join a Slippery Rock team that recently finished 2018 with a 30-19 overall record. One of the most consistent programs in the region, SRU has recorded winning records in 23 of the last 24 seasons.
