The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Washington Nationals 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park. Starling Marte hit a game-winning two-run home run in the third inning, that provided the only runs scored in the game. Marte now has a seven-game hitting streak. Trevor Williams earned the victory with five shutout innings. He allowed four hits for his seventh win of the season. Felipe Vazquez struck out the side in the ninth for his 20th save. Four Pirate relievers held the Nationals scoreless over the final four innings.
The Pirates took two of three games in the series.
The Bucs host the first-place Milwaukee Brewers for a five-game series over the next four days beginning tonight. First pitch is 7:05pm. Jameson Taillon will start for the Pirates. Hear the game on WISR 680am beginning at 6:40pm.
Pirates starting pitcher Chad Kuhl will not be returning to the active roster anytime soon. Kuhl will not throw a baseball for the next month with a forearm and elbow strain.
