The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-3 last night in the opener of a three-game series. Pirate starter Gerrit Cole improved to 8-2 this season. He did not allow an earned run over seven innings, striking out nine. He lowered his ERA to 1.90 overall. Mark Melancon picked up his 14th save of the season.
The Bucs and Giants meet again tonight in San Francisco at 10:15pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 9:50pm.
