The Pittsburgh Pirates earned their third victory in 10 games this season following a 5-4 win in 11-innings over the New York Yankees Sunday. Tommy Pham drove in Jack Suwinski with a walk-off single to give the Bucs the victory, after they blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning. (Pham had struck out in three of his four at-bats in the game before the walk-off single).
Starting pitcher Andrew Heaney struck out 10 Yankees over seven innings. He allowed five hits and one run. Ryan Borucki failed to close the game, allowing the Yankees to score a game-tying three runs in the top of the ninth inning.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at PNC Park. First pitch is 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Carmen Mlodzinski will start for the Bucs.
