A couple of local high schools will be participating in a gladiator-style robot competition open to the public beginning today.
The 20th annual Southwestern Pennsylvania BotsIQ preliminary rounds kick off with an opening ceremony at 10:15 a.m. at the Community College of Allegheny County.
Over 500 students from 49 schools across the region have spent the last few months building robots to compete, including teams from Freeport Area High School and Seneca Valley Senior High School.
The competition draws on students’ knowledge of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) subjects. Teams will be attempting to secure a spot in the finals next month at PennWest California.
