An animal diagnostic lab in neighboring Beaver County will be expanding.
Penn State Beaver was awarded $6 million in last year’s budget to expand the state’s capacity to respond to animal disease outbreak.
Governor Josh Shapiro is now calling for an additional $2 million investment to support the lab’s operations. Officials say having testing available in Western PA has been a long-term goal of the Agriculture Department.
The lab has served as a hub for avian influenza testing; a part of more than 200,000 tests statewide.
