A current member of Butler City Council will be running for Mayor.
Republican Don Shearer has been a member of Council for three years and has been a longtime community volunteer.
Shearer sees neighborhood revitalization as one of the main issues facing the city at this point and he is looking to use proceeds from the BASA sale to support this effort as well as public safety.
“After serving as the Director of Accounts and Finance on City Council, I realized that I could do even more for Butler as Mayor,” Shearer said in a statement. “My experience working with the city finances and budget has shown me both the opportunities and challenges we face. While Main Street has seen progress, our neighborhoods need a comprehensive and strategic plan to thrive. Main Street and our neighborhoods go hand in hand in Butler’s success, and now is the time to focus on supporting every part of our community equally.”
Shearer currently serves on Council as the City’s Director of Accounts and Finance. He also recently led the way on the new Rental Ordinance with a goal of addressing blight and slum housing.
