As state elected officials prepare to return to Harrisburg, several state representatives are making effort to banning utility reconnection fees.
The coalition of Southeastern Democrats have reintroduced a bill that aims to prohibit utility companies and municipal authorities from applying reconnection fees for those under a certain income.
Instead the entities would work with the induvial to create a payment plant to make right on any outstanding bill.
This bill comes as the utility shut off protections, Chapter 14, expires on Jan 31. of this year.
Last year this bill did not receive a vote from the consumer protection, technology, and utilities committee.
