A court order will require Butler County to release 911 tapes from the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The order comes after lawsuits from numerous national news outlets, including NBC News, that filed Right to Know requests and were denied.
County officials say their policy has been to deny releasing 911 calls in order to protect an individual’s privacy.
“Our primary concern was for the future safety of 911 calls,” Butler County Commissioner Leslie Osche said. “We didn’t want people to fear that a future call would be released.”
However, the consent order issued noted that the county can redact names and phone numbers.
“There’s nothing on these recordings that is an ‘a-ha’ moment,” Osche added.
It also acknowledged that this order is non-precedent setting—meaning that it will not be used in the future.
“This was the best possible outcome,” County Commissioner Kevin Boozel said.
