Officials in Adams Township are warning residents to be careful where they charge their phone after a home fire.
Fire crews were called to home on Pearce Road shortly before 1:30 a.m. for a fire in a second story bedroom.
After the fire was put out crews went looking for what started the fire. They discovered a charging cell phone tucked into the couch cushions and under a blanket.
The National Fire Protection Association says to never charge cell phones on soft surfaces such as mattresses, bedding, pillows, and sheets. Instead, charge them on hard, flat, and well-ventilated surfaces.
