There is still time for residents to join a local nonprofit organization for free educational programs dealing with mental illness.
NAMI, or the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is offering a new support group for those in recovery from a mental health condition called Connections beginning September 3rd from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Holly Pointe Building. Meetings are free and confidential. No registration is required.
Family to Family is an eight-week program sponsored by NAMI, that begins September 4th at the Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry Township. This free in-person, evidence-based class will include course materials about understanding diagnosis, treatment options, crisis management, communication techniques, and self-care.
Peer to Peer is an eight-week program that begins September 6th at NAMI’s Butler office in the Holly Pointe Building. This two-hour in-person class will include course materials provided at no cost. Trained leaders with lived experience will introduce activities, facilitate discussions, and present informative videos.
Class size for Family to Family and Peer to Peer is limited. Those interested in participating should visit the website of NAMI to register by tomorrow for Family to Family and by Friday for Peer to Peer.
