Recent Butler high school graduate Drew Griffith was named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Boy Athlete of the Year Sunday. Griffith was honored for putting together one of the best high school senior seasons in U.S. history for a distance runner. He won WPIAL and PIAA titles, set national marks and broke the four-minute mile.
Multi-sport athlete Emma Paul of Armstrong was honored by the Post-Gazette as the Girl Athlete of the year. She was just the third athlete ever to make the Post-Gazette’s Fab-Five for basketball and make the all-area team in softball in the same year. Paul also helped the Riverhawks girls golf team reach the WPIAL championships. She was also part of Armstrong’s Class 5A softball championship team, and their basketball team which played in the WPIAL title game.
