Former Pitt freshman Carlton “Bub” Carrington was selected 14th overall in the NBA draft last night by the Portland Trail Blazers. After he was selected, he was traded to the Washington Wizards. In his only season with the Panthers, Carrington earned All-ACC Rookie honors. He became the first Pitt player to be drafted in over a decade.
The Atlanta Hawks had the first selection in the draft, and selected a forward from France, one of four French players taken in the opening round, and the second straight year a freshman was take first overall. The Hawks selected forward Zaccharie Risacher was snagged by the Atlanta Hawks with the number one pick. Washington went second and also picked a Frenchman as well with their selection of 18-year-old center Alex Sarr, who’s been playing pro in Europe since he was 14!
Last year, Victor Wembanyama was taken first overall by the San Antonio Spurs.
