The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs in the second game of a four-game series at Wrigley Field Friday night by a score of 9-3.
The bats came alive for the Bucs, collecting 15 hits in the game including 2 home runs from Jared Triolo (2) and Andrew McCutchen (6). Bryan Reynolds, Nick Gonzales, Yasmani Grandal, Rowdy Tellez, and Triolo each had 2 hits in the game. Right Fielder Connor Joe led with 3 hits in the game.
The real story of this game, however, was starting pitcher Paul Skenes.
In just his second start in the Majors, Skenes dealt 6 innings of no-hit baseball, allowing his only baserunner on a walk in the 6th inning, while collecting 11 strikeouts. He becomes the first Pirate in Wrigley Field history to collect 11 strikeouts in a game.
The Pirates continue the series today at Wrigley at 2:20 PM. Pregame is on WISR at 1:55 PM. The series will wrap up on Sunday, same time.
