The Knoch School Board is considering a tax increase as part of the budget for the 2024-25 school year.
During the Wednesday night school board meeting, board members approved a preliminary general fund budget of nearly $39.7 million which is an increase of just over $1 million compared to the current year.
District administrators are recommending a tax rate increase of 2 mils which would bring next year’s rate to 96.275 mils. The average taxpayer in the Knoch school district would see their annual total increase by about $34 if this new rate is approved.
The main reason for the increase in expenses and the need for the millage increase is an increase in the cost of providing healthcare coverage to employees. If approved, this would be the first time
Knoch has increased their tax millage since 2017.
The proposed budget will now be posted for public review on the district’s website for 30 days. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback before a final vote is taken on next year’s budget in June.
