The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 11-2 in Grapefruit League play Monday in Clearwater, Florida. Oneil Cruz and Rowdy Tellez each hit three-run home runs in the third inning of the game. Cruz hit two homers in the game and had three hits. He drove in six of the Pirates runs. The Bucs lead all teams in the Grapefruit League with 45 home runs, two shy of their spring training record. Martin Perez went five innings as the Pirates starter. He allowed two runs, neither was earned, on five hits. He walked two and struck out eight.
The Pirates have their final off-day of the spring today – then visit the New York Yankees for another night game in Tampa Wednesday.
