The New York Islanders defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-4 in overtime last night at PPG Paints Arena. It was the Penguins second loss in a row and fifth loss in their past six games.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the first period of last night’s game, the Pens fell behind 4-2 by the middle of the third period, only to battle back and force the overtime. The Islanders won the extra point less than a minute after regulation.
It was another consistent struggle for the Penguins despite their high-paid talent. Despite line changes, the Pens went 0-for-3 on power plays in the game, and although they did not allow a short-handed goal, they did allow the Islanders a break-away goal at the end of a power play.
The Pens host Montreal Thursday night.
