Former Pitt and NFL standout wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will be honored with induction into the College Football Hall of Fame’s 2024 class, which will be recognized in December. Fitzgerald receives his selection in his first year of eligibility. He will be the 25th Panther honored with election to the College Football Hall of Fame. In just 26 career contests in college, Fitzgerald tallied 161 catches for almost 2,700 yards and a program record 34 receiving touchdowns. Fitzgerald concluded his time at Pitt with a touchdown reception in his final 18 games, which set an NCAA record. He went on to a 17-year career in the NFL and made 11 Pro Bowls.
Also elected to the hall of fame class is Penn State’s Paul Posluszny, who is a Hopewell high school graduate. Posluszny is the 26th Nittany Lion to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. Posluszny won the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the top defensive player in college football, in 2005 and 2006. He also won the Butkus Award, given to the top linebacker in the country, in 2005. He made 37 starts at Penn State and also went on to the NFL.
