The number of applicants to the Pennsylvania State Police continues to grow following the decision to drop the college credit requirement.
At the end of last month, state police say just over 1,200 people have applied to the state police academy in the month since the requirement was lifted.
Of that applicant pool, over 500 were from individuals who were not eligible under the previous restrictions.
Governor Josh Shapiro said in a statement that he is pleased to see the jump in applications adding that these people “want to serve their community.”
Applicants must be at least 21 years old when academy training starts. They also must be a Pennsylvania resident and have a driver’s license.
