The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 in 10-inning Sunday at PNC Park. The victory gave the Pirates their second series win in the month of July. Josh Palacios hit a two-run home run in the 10th inning to win the game. The Pirates came back from 2-0 and 4-3 deficits in the game.
Palacios had three hits including his first walk-off home run on his 28th birthday.
The Pirates defeated the Phillies 7-6 Saturday. Rookie catcher Endy Rodriguez drove in four runs. The Phillies took Friday’s game 2-1.
The loss dropped the Phillies a half-game back in the Wild Card playoff chase. They are chasing San Francisco, Milwaukee and Miami.
The Pirates are off today and host the Detroit Tigers for a two-game series beginning Tuesday night. It will be the final appearance in Pittsburgh for Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera, who is retiring after 20 seasons.
