Pirates:
Johan Oviedo pitched 6 ⅔ innings for the Pittsburgh Pirates in Thursday’s series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, allowing six hits while striking out six.
Two of those hits were two-run homers, which, combined with the Pirates managing only four hits of their own, contributed to a 5-2 loss, their third of the four-game series.

Former Pitt Panthers great Darrelle Revis is getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month.
Via the Hall of Fame’s website, Revis has announced that his mother, Diana Askew, will do the honors.
In 11 seasons with four teams, the Aliquippa product was first-team All-Pro four times. He also racked up seven Pro Bowl invitations and a selection to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 2010s. Revis also won a ring at Super Bowl XLIX (49) with the New England Patriots.
The Class of 2023 will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 5 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
Golf:
Jonas Blixt heated up on the back nine at TPC Deere Run on Thursday, playing his last six holes in 6-under-par for a 9-under 62 and a two-shot lead over Grayson Murray in the first round of the John Deere Classic.
Xiyu Janet Lin (She-you Lynn) at Pebble Beach let her putter do the work Thursday for a 4-under-par 68, giving her the early lead in the first U.S. Women’s Open.
SOFIA KENIN MAKES A COMEBACK AT WIMBLEDON:
Sofia Kenin defeated Xinyu Wang (Shin-you) at Wimbledon yesterday 6-4, 6-3. That gets her to the third round of a major tournament for the first time since the 2021 French Open.
Kenin, who was born in Russia but raised in the U.S., beat Coco Gauff in Monday’s first round.
WAWRINKA CRUISES PAST ETCHEVERRY:
Stan Wawrinka, upset Tomas Martin Etcheverry, at Wimbledon.
Wawrinka got to the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since 2020 by defeating Etcheverry 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. He’ll face Novak Djokovic next.
- In the day’s Wimbledon shocker, number 142-ranked Liam Broady defeated number 4 Casper Ruud. It was a 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win for Broady and his first ever against a top 10 player.
