High School Bowling
Freeport bowler Julia Cummings was the runner-up Friday at the Pennsylvania Western Regional Singles Championships in Pittsburgh.
Cummings qualified first in the five-game tournament and defeated her teammate Makenzie Livingston 204-161 in the Semifinals. Cummings then fell 198-136 to Victoria Medrick of Conneaut in the title match.
The top-12 bowlers qualified for the State Championships in Erie next weekend. Butler’s Kelsee McConnell missed by eight pins, finishing 13th. Her teammate Natalie Coughenour finished 15 pins short of the state tournament in 16th.
The Butler and Freeport girls compete in the Regional Team Championship today.
High School Basketball
The Knoch girls travel to Punxsutawney for a 3pm tip-off in the Class 4A First Round. Hear the game on WISR beginning at 2:45pm.
The North Catholic girls host Conneaut in the Class 4A First Round at 2pm.
The Mars Girls meet York Suburban in the Class 5A First Round at 3pm.
The Karns City boys travel to Aliquippa at 2pm for a Class 2A opener.
The Franklin boys host Shady Side Academy in Class 3A at 3pm.
