High School Sports:
–The Karns City girls basketball team defeated Kane 28-21 last night to win the District 9 Class 3A championship. It was the second-lowest scoring title game in D9 history. The Gremlins will play Chestnut Ridge in the District 5-8-9 subregional title game Saturday at Penn West Clarion. Tip-off is noon. Both teams have already qualified for the PIAA playoffs.
–Moniteau defeated Coudersport 50-38 in the District 9 Class 2A Semifinals. The Warriors have advanced to the D9 title game for the seventh time in the past 12 seasons. They will meet Redbank Valley at 2pm Saturday in Clarion.
–The North Catholic girls basketball team have joined the boys program in a WPIAL championship game this weekend, after the Lady Trojans defeated Highlands 63-45 last night in the Class 4A Semifinals. Alayna Rocco led North Catholic with 19 points. They will face Blackhawk in the championship game Saturday at the Petersen Events Center. Tip-off is 3pm.
–The New Castle boys basketball team defeated Mt. Lebanon 58-42 last night in the Class 6A Semifinals. The Red Hurricanes have now reached a WPIAL championship game for the ninth time in 12 seasons. They will meet Central Catholic, who defeated Upper St. Clair 65-41 in the other Semifinal. It is just the first time since 2012 they have reached the title game which will be played Saturday night at the Petersen Events Center.
–The Mars boys lost to South Fayette 56-36 in their Class 5A Fifth-Place Consolation game last night.
–The Grove City boys defeated Harbor Creek 57-43 in the District 10 Class 4A Semifinals. They will meet Hickory for the title Friday.
