A looming winter storm is bringing a mix of rain and snow that could lead to treacherous conditions Friday morning.
It’s known as Winter Storm Elliot and it’s packing a powerful punch. AccuWeather meteorologist Bill Deger who details the timeline.
“Between about 2 and 4 a.m. we expect a strong cold front to move through and bottom will drop out with temperatures and go well below freezing very quickly,” Deger said. “Any rain will turn into snow.”
Deger says the quick drop in temperatures could lead to flash freezing conditions.
“We’re talking about a drop in temperature of about 10 to 20, even 25 degrees in just a couple of hours time. And of course, since we’ll have rain out in front of that drop in temperature, roads and sidewalks are still going to be wet. So, that’s a flash freeze. Everything is going to ice up and travel looks really rough Friday morning,” Deger said.
He also says prediction models show about one to three inches of snow by Friday afternoon.
