The Pittsburgh Penguins opened their season with a 6-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes at PPG Paints Arena. Sidney Crosby scored the Penguins first goal just a minute into the game, and went on to a three point night. The Pens opened a 3-0 lead in the first period and never trailed. They had six different goal-scorers in the game, and scored twice on the Power Play. Goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 26 of 28 shots.
The Penguins became the first team in 67 years of NHL play to score at least six goals and have 53 shots in a season opener. The 1955 New York Rangers opened their season with seven goals on 54 shots.
The Pens will host the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday for a 7pm face-off. Pre-game begins at 6:30pm on WISR.
