Butler Area School District is receiving grant funding to offer a new class to seniors currently taking courses at Butler County Community College.
Currently, 58 Butler seniors are earning free college credits through the Early College Pathway pilot program.
The courses are in-person during the mornings at BC3’s main campus but since the college schedule has more time off around the holidays, students will be participating in a program called Twin Cities RISE.
A $128,000 Benedum grant has allowed for the training of 20 Butler staff members so that they can teach 10 sessions that focus on topics such as emotional problem solving skills.
The district plans to get feedback from students who engage in the program this year before deciding if they will continue to offer this program to seniors taking classes at BC3 in the future.
