The Butler Area School Board has approved a new contract with teachers.
At their regular meeting Monday, the board approved a new five-year collective bargaining agreement between the Butler Area School District and the Butler Education Association. The contract includes an average annual salary increase of 3.3 percent.
This contract increases the contractual work year by one day. This contract will also allow for the district to recognize specialized training and qualifications of professional employees through the implementation of a micro credentialing process.
Superintendent Dr. Brian White addresses the importance of this deal:
“We can’t compete with some of the local districts in our region with the salary schedule to give to employees, but one way we can provide validation and security to our employees is stability about knowing the where their contract is and length of contract,” White said.
“I anticipate there being some unstable times ahead. Anything we can do know to help get our house in order to be ready for that transition is going to be important.”
The BEA has already voted to approve the contract for its 486 members. It will take effect July 1st, 2023 and continue through June 30, 2028.
“I’m very happy we were able to come to a compromise and an agreement that is best going to serve the community, the students, and our employees,” White said.
