The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Butler is continuing to work to address many issues with the Penn Theater.
Authority Operations Manager Veronica Walker informed the Authority Board that employees have spent an undetermined amount of money to address concerns raised by the Butler City Zoning office in a Building Code violation letter issued to the Authority a couple months ago.
Work done includes the shortening by about 10 feet of a large brick chimney determined to be unsafe as well as cementing bricks in the back of the building. The authority did not receive written confirmation of their compliance and the building’s safety but do plan to request that documentation from City officials.
The Authority also owes an undetermined amount in back taxes on the property. Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation recently paid a different overdue tax bill. This is the same group that loaned the Authority the money to purchase the theater many years ago.
